a movie of love, music and conflicts

To earn a living and pay for his studies, Lu-ai works in a Turkish Hamam for men and women. The atmosphere in the Hamam is sensual and there is a light mist in the air. It is frequented by a few fat men and several well-built, handsome young men in the men’s section, and a few bizarre yet striking women among the beautiful, well-shaped young women in the women’s section. With a group of friends Lu-ai plays in a band at various parties and functions, but mostly at the coffee house run by Rane, a student secretly in love with him. Lu-ai’s best friend, confidant, and teacher is Amon, who taught Lu-ai the love of music. Lu-ai listens to Amon for hours playing or reminiscing. He lives vicariously through Amon, but believes that he, too, one day will be able to leave and travel the world playing his music.
This is a love story between Lu-ai an Israeli-Arab and Darya an Israeli-Ebrew, married and music teacher, that takes place in the all too real Israeli political situation. The differences between Lu-ai and Darya, however, are not just religion, nationality, and culture, but also their worlds of music different and contradictory. They are two personalities that attract and reject each other, generating an intense and authentic relationship: Lu-ai, the poet, who improvises instinctively, and transforms his feelings into unrestrained music, not letting others play with him unless they play his style of jazz, and Darya, the precise, academic teacher who is unable to improvise and play without sheet music. As their love begins to grow they begin to make compromises: Darya gives up a few of her rules and Lu-ai, voluntarily, will assume some of them.
The confrontation between these two worlds, Lu-ai’s instinct and passion and Darya’s rational and falsely secure life, will bring them together in a daring love affair, where both will share with and grow together...
